GLOSSARY OF TERMS
What does all this lingo mean?

Organic Cotton

Organic Cotton is grown without the use of genetically modified plants and restricts the use of harmful fertilisers and pesticides. This makes it safer on the environment, the farmers and us. It ensures increased biodiversity of ecosystems where it is grown. Organic cotton growers remain committed to land integrity, working to rotate crops and implement natural methods for pest control.

Recycled Cotton

Produced from pre-consumer waste such fabric leftovers & yarn by-products and post-consumer waste such as clothing and upholstery. Recycled Cotton uses pre and post-consumer waste to create new cotton yarns, helping to divert waste from landfill. We source recycled cotton fabrics made with post-consumer waste..

Better Cotton Initiative (BCI)

BCI is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to raising the sustainability standard of cotton production globally. Better Cotton is grown in a way that uses water efficiently, cares for the health of the soil and natural habitats, reduces the use of harmful chemicals, and improves the lives of farming communities. Rescued Fabrics

Fabrics that are at their end of life, overstocked or unwanted. Re-claiming this fabric reduces the environmental impact of creating new fabrics. Rescued fabrics are often short runs and allow us to build our capsule range offering you more exclusive product.

Linen

A natural fibre made from the flax plant. As a crop, flax has as a low impact on the land and requires low amounts of water to produce. Linen fibres are durable, breathable, anti-bacterial, quick drying and gentle on the planet.

lYOCELL

Lyocell is a semi-synthetic fiber, part of the Rayon family, produced by environmentally responsible processes from sustainably sourced natural raw material wood. Known for their natural comfort, Lyocell fibres are strong, moisture absorbing and gentle on the skin.

Recycled Synthetics

Most commonly sourced from post-consumer waste, such as PET material—your plastic water bottles. Recycled polyester helps to reduce plastic waste and prevent it from ending up in our oceans and landfills. It can also be sourced from used textiles such as clothing and upholstery.

Alpaca Wool

Lightweight, warm, naturally renewable wool. The soft hooves along with effective eating and drinking habits of the Alpaca reduces environmental impact. Containing no lanolin, alpaca fiber is also naturally hypoallergenic.

PRE-Consumer Waste

Pre-consumer waste is collected in the manufacturing process. For instance, denim scraps from jeans factories can be collected and turned into new yarns.

Laser Technology

Laser finishing technology creates the desired “washed back” look digitally, and is executed onto the garment via laser. This is a waterless process. Our supplier has reported that the introduction of laser finishing technology has increased efficiency within their operations, saving processing time and water consumption.
