What is the Ceres Life ‘Sustainahood’?
It is an editorial series that we hope becomes a collective force for combining brave ideas that help us create kinder, smarter, more planet-positive lifestyles. What or who inspires you to act on sustainability?
My kids and thinking about what kind of world we want for them in the future.

What change would you like to see in the world?
People buying less. My personal mantra is buy less, buy better – it adds up to less waste, less landfill.

How have you managed to embed sustainable thinking within your designs this season?
We focus on timeless designs not fast-fashion. We are looking to what our customer already has in her wardrobe and building on that.

What is a change you have made this year to live a more sustainable life?
Little changes that add up to big changes – for example looking for sustainable swap outs for everyday items including refillable liquids and reusable coffee cups.

What is the one piece of advice you would offer to others seeking to create change?
Start small and easy – every bit counts.

What is something you have read, watched or listened to lately that inspired you?
I’m inspired by our garment suppliers who are innovating and investing in technology to lead the way on improving how our garments are produced and minimising the environmental impact.

What do you love most about being in nature? Where, and how does it make you feel?
The beach is my happy place – it’s where I feel most connected to the earth and aware of the elements.

After years of wearing skinny styles, wide legs can seem slightly intimidating — what are some style tips to make incorporating them into your wardrobe more seamless?

Wide leg jeans are becoming a wardrobe staple and with the variety of flattering cuts available they are no longer just a “tall girl’s” style. It’s all about getting the balance and proportions right – pair a wide leg bottom with a top that has less volume. Alternatively, you can try a half tuck to define your waist or opt for a top that sits at or above the hip for the most flattering silhouette. Avoid tops or jackets that finish at the thigh.

Wide legs are super versatile – pair them with trainers when you’re on the go or dress up with long coat and a heel.

Consumers are becoming more conscious of sustainability and ethical standards in their jeans — how are Ceres embracing responsible design in their denim range?
Our core denim range is made from premium 99% organic cotton, with 1% elastane stretch for comfort.

Organic fibres, such as organic cotton, are grown using natural processes that protect the health of the soil and the communities who grow it. Organic cotton doesn’t allow the use of toxic chemicals and fertilisers, or genetically modified organisms (GMO).

We partner with suppliers who are certified to the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) or the Organic Content Standard (OCS), so you know that claims can be trusted and traced back to the source.

This makes our organic range safer for the environment, the farmers and for us.

Each of our designs are built with the customer’s needs in mind – stretch for comfort and longevity with styles that will last from one year to the next.

In the future we are also looking towards sustainable dying and washing options to reduce impact.
 

In terms of versatility and durability, how does organic denim compare?
The organic cotton used in our denim undergoes fewer chemical treatments during harvest and processing therefore the structural integrity of the cotton is less compromised.

The result is that organic cotton fibres are longer and stronger resulting in a more durable fibre.

Denim has moved well beyond jeans this season, what other denim styles are trending this season — and is double denim still a leading look?
Denim shorts have become a wardrobe staple – especially our flattering mid-thigh length. When the weather heats up it’s a great go-to bottom option.

The classic denim jacket never goes out of style and is the perfect layering piece. Our summer range will also feature denim jumpsuits and skirts.

Double denim is definitely a great look with so many options to create the perfect outfit.

When it comes to caring for our jeans, is it true that a little bit of love goes a long way? How can we continue being low impact in our wear and care of denim?
Yes – the less washing the better! We suggest washing your denim inside out, on a cold gentle setting, or a hand-wash to save more water. To dry, lay jeans flat to eradicate creases and prevent the need for ironing.
 

What are the different styles of denim this season and what is distinctive about each design?

STRAIGHT LEG & SLIM LEG JEAN
The humble denim jean is a cornerstone of our wardrobes that can effortlessly take us from desk to dinner … or morning coffee to espresso martini.

But like a good hairdresser, your children’s overdue library books and a bingeworthy podcast, the perfect pair of jeans can be hard to find.

In recent years, the classic staple has been reimagined — ranging from distressed and baggy off-duty looks through to elevated after-dark denims with directional details and chic colours.

Curated by our in-house design team and fashion experts, these hard-working essentials anchor our collections, promising endless versatility, time after time.
