Noosa; It's Child's Play

“Four years ago, I moved my young family from Melbourne up to Noosa. It had long been a dream of ours to live in Noosa and we were so excited when we finally made the leap.

As a journalist (so a professional storyteller!), I love nothing more than sharing my favourite places to stay, play, eat, relax and shop in Noosa, and so, The Noosa Insider was born (@thenoosainsider); a platform where I could share my local intel and showcase the very best on offer in this beautiful place I’m fortunate enough to now call home.”

As a mum of three young kids, one thing I get asked the most is about child-friendly places to visit in Noosa. So, here’s my guide to travelling to Noosa with kids in tow.

What to do in Noosa.
What to do in Noosa.

Most people know (and love) Noosa Main Beach for its soft waves and white sand, and being surrounded by some of Noosa’s finest restaurants and cafes. Younger kids can spend endless hours making sandcastles, while the bigger kids (and parents) can catch their first wave with Merrick's Learn to Surf lessons. But, aside from the beach, there are so many things to keep the kids happy and you relaxed while on holiday.

Nestled in Noosa's hinterland, The Doonan is a recent entrant to the kid-friendly wonderland. Soccer, trampolines, a cubby house, and even chooks – consider it a mini paradise for the little ones. While the kids are having a ball (and kicking a ball), you can sit back and relax with wood-fired pizzas, tap beers and cocktails. It’s the ultimate family-friendly lunch spot.

For the true Noosa experience, hop aboard the Noosa Ferry (departs from the Sofitel Hotel jetty) and cruise down the Noosa River. It’s pram-friendly and is the perfect all-weather activity, with undercover seating, as well as a rooftop deck to get the ultimate view. Captain Mick doubles as a Noosa historian, and don't forget to let the kids take the helm and sound the horn.

Every Friday and Sunday, the Noosa Boathouse hosts live music on their deck from 4:30pm. Situated right on Noosa River, bring a picnic or grab some of Noosa’s best fish & chips, and watch the kids dance around on the sand as the sun sets behind them. Did I mention the Boathouse also serves takeaway beer and wine? You’re welcome!

Rainy day in Noosa? Wet weather will become an indoor adventure at the Noosa Library. Think comfy couches, wooden toys, and a children's section – plus, it's free! While across the carpark, the Noosa Leisure Centre offers a soft play area for the under 5s.

The Noosa Farmer's Market comes to life every Sunday morning at the Noosa Tigers Football Ground, with the best fresh local produce, as well as freshly baked breads, potted plants, delicious smoothies and an impressive selection of international cuisines.

Just because you’re travelling with kids doesn’t mean you have to miss out on Noosa’s restaurants; the 5pm reservation will become your best friend. With a great kids’ menu and colouring-in activities, enjoy an early dinner with ocean views at the long-time favourite Bistro C. For a more relaxed vibe, grab a burger from the famous Betty's Burgers and enjoy a dinner on the beach. El Capitano on Hastings St has just had a big revamp and it’s the perfect post-beach-day easy lunch or dinner with yummy pizzas and pastas and a great kids’ menu too.

So, pack your bags, embrace the chaos, and let Noosa become your go-to family holiday destination.
